I’ll bring this story back since 5th grade but the main part is in 8th grade. I loved playing basketball from the time I was little kid. I would watch games everyday; I had a chance too. I decide to play the sport in 5th grade, and wow, I was shaking with anxiety to be on a team. I kept playing basketball always made the team and wasn’t worried about anything. I felt on top of the world. Well when I was entering the 7th grade my favorite player in the NBA. Derrick Rose the MVP that year tore his ACL. That was a season ending injury. I was shutdown emotionally at the moment that horrible event happened and every one of his fans felt the same. I was asking myself should I even play basketball anymore because my favorite player was out and maybe wasn’t going to play the same as he did. I asked my self am I really going to give up on the sport that makes me happy and motivates me to be better. No I finished my 7th grade year strong and felt like I got better. In the summer, Derrick Rose was back, but I felt he wasn’t the same. One day my friend and I were talking and he asked me what if you had an injury like Derrick did. I answered with I would be depressed because all the work I put in over in the past 3-4 years might be gone. Then, I told myself I would do my best to come back better then ever too. Then my 8th grade year came up the year I was really going to show people what I worked on in the summer practicing. The season started off great with me doing well in all my games until, one game against Lighthouse. My season took a turn I even remember the day, January 11, 2018 game started at 4.00 I was ready and warmed up for the big game. They were first in our conference we were second. This was the battle to see who the better team was. Our coach was told us to bring all we had to this game. That made us more excited to win the game, and we were going to give it our all as a team. We started off great and kept doing well until half time the score was 24-19 .We were up by five but they were still in it. That’s when third quarter happened. We were in transition dribbling down the court. I got the ball, went up for a layup, got hit in the air after that hit I couldn’t get my landing right, and boom. My head was throbbing. I started shaking with fear when I saw my ankle twisted the wrong way. A wave of fear washed over my body. I almost passed out. My coach and teammates carried me to the locker room. I was scared this had never happened to me before. I went to the hospital to get my ankle and head checked. I thought ok. I just sprained it. Well I was wrong. The doctor told me I tore two ligaments in my ankle. It was called an anterior talofibular ligament tear. I didn’t know what that was, and he told me I wasn’t going to be back that season. I was unhappy with that news. All I could to do was work on my ankle and make it stronger than it ever was before. That exactly what I did. I worked over the summer on my ankle, and I felt better everyday. I was doing it. It was the month of August. I Still hadn’t touched a basketball. My ankle wasn’t a hundred percent, but I needed to get back on the court and start putting work in. I did that until my freshman year basketball started. I felt great better than I ever felt before. My ankle was a hundred percent when tryouts came around. I was doing great and made the team. The first game came around to see if all that hard work I put into my body was worth it and it was. I’ve been playing better than I ever played in my past. I learned that people could make a comeback if they put dedication and true hard work into it and always try to do better to do better.
